Dogs

Find your way around

We are allowed to keep up to 25 dogs in our kennels and we are nearly always full. Each dog is groomed daily and walked twice a day; dogs which need it get trained too.

Here is a video clip of just one of many dogs who come to Ferne in need of a new home. This little dogs owner, due to a change in circumstances, didnt have the time to look after him properly anymore and wanted him to have a new owner who would have the time to look after, groom and walk him.  Here you can see him having a shampoo and much needed clip, all part of the care dogs receive at Ferne.

The sanctuary has a socialisation unit to help keep dogs the dogs used to living in a home environment and a grass paddock where all the dogs get the chance to play in safety. The dogs also have a special grooming room where they can be pampered and groomed in comfort. The grooming room was funded in part by a legacy.

Volunteer with dogs

We have volunteer walkers who give up their free time to walk the dogs what ever the weather! To whom Ferne Animal Sanctuary and the dogs are very grateful! We also have a home visiting service where dogs that are rehomed are visited where possible annually by volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a home visitor or dog walker click here.

Dog show

Every year Ferne Animal Sanctuary holds a dog show. The event is sponsored by local individuals and business. For more information about our events click here.

Horses

Ferne Animal Sanctuary has been saving the lives of unwanted and abandoned animals for over 70 years.
Your support will mean this vital work can continue.

Ferne Animal Sanctuary strives to provide care and refuge for unwanted domestic & farm animals. The Sanctuary rehomes dogs & cats within a 30 mile radius of Ferne. Some horses & ponies are available for permanent loan; all other animals remain at the Sanctuary for the rest of their lives. We rely entirely on donations & legacies to continue its work. Some of the animals come to Ferne because they have been neglected or are no longer wanted. Others come to us because of circumstantial changes of their owners. All animals are given the care, attention & TLC they need to enjoy a happy life while they are at Ferne.
